Get to know Principal Griesel
My name is Liz Griesel, and I’m proud to serve the students and staff as the Principal of Sugar Creek Elementary. At Sugar Creek, we strive to meet our District’s mission of focusing on the joy of learning and growth for everyone through innovative educational experiences, optimizing individual learning, and creating potential for success in a global community.
I joined the Waukee School District in 2018, as an assistant principal at Eason and Maple Grove Elementary Schools. In 2022, I had the opportunity to open Waukee’s 10th elementary school, Sugar Creek, as our principal. Previous to joining the Waukee CSD family, I served as a curriculum coordinator, instructional coach, and middle school teacher in Des Moines Public Schools. I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Drake University and my Ph.D. at Iowa State University.
I enjoy working and living in our District. My husband owns a landscaping business, and our three kids attend school in the District. We take great pride in our community and are grateful for the many opportunities and friendships that we have here!
